The King and I

The King and I

In: Urban Choreographies

This reverse frontier trek, from the west to east lead ultimately to the Arch, the “Gateway to the West” (a inverse Manifest Destiny) along a single boulevard, enacted through the character of “urban king” with a Burger King crown the vision of Rust Belt decay. Pushing a shopping cart, and collecting urban detritus, the king traverses posh western neighborhoods, mansions and Washington University, through factory wastelands, decaying Opera buildings, and ultimately the “inner city” core.

2002
8 miles down Lindell Boulevard
Cardboard crown, grocery cart, wood, concrete, digital video

Video still.
